Overview
The City of Frederick’s Housing Discrimination Ordinance was amended on May 16, 2002. In many respects Frederick’s Ordinance mirrors state and federal fair housing laws. One significant addition is that under Frederick’s ordinance it is now also unlawful to discriminate in housing because of source of income. The Housing Discrimination Ordinance established the Fair Housing Commission to investigate complaints of discriminatory practices in housing and to educate and inform the public on their rights to Fair Housing.
It is the policy of the City of Frederick to provide for fair housing to all of its residents, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, disability, marital status, or source of income; and to that end to prohibit discriminatory practices with respect to residential housing by any person or group of persons, in order that the peace, health, safety, prosperity, and general welfare of all the inhabitants of the City may be protected and insured.
