The City of Frederick Becomes More Bike Friendly
Frederick, MD -- The City of Frederick has completed the bicycle accommodations for the entire 7th Street Corridor from Fort Detrick, past Hood College and Frederick Memorial Hospital to East Street. The program included the installation of approved Manual of Uniformed Traffic Control Devices including; bike lanes, signage, shared lane markings (“sharrows”) and storm drain replacement. This pilot program location was selected because of the access to residential areas, major employment zones and local activity centers.
In May 2012, The City of Frederick received a Bronze Level designation as a 2012 Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. This award recognizes the dedicated work of the City’s Ad Hoc Bicycle Committee. Tim Davis, Transportation Planner for The City of Frederick, received notification of the Bronze status from the League of American Bicyclists on April 27, 2012. Funds for this project are courtesy of the Maryland Department of Transportation.
