Frederick County, Md. – Curbside recycling was cancelled Wednesday, December 26 due to inclement weather. The Frederick County Department of Solid Waste Management announced today that every effort is being made to provide recycling collection for streets that were missed.
For scheduled streets that did not receive curbside recycling collection on Wednesday, the county’s contracted service provider, Allied Waste, will resume collection on Friday, December 28, at approximately the same points they suspended service. Residents in the affected areas should set their carts out for recycling collection by 6 a.m. Friday morning; make-up collections will continue through Saturday, December 29. Collections will occur as efficiently as possible, but due to the large volume of recyclables being collected and the rescheduling of routes, the county cannot specify whether a specific street’s make-up collection will occur Friday or Saturday.

In order to make rescheduled curbside service possible, it will be necessary to utilize vehicles not labeled for recycling collection (i.e. “trash trucks”). Allied Waste’s contract with Frederick County Government ensures that all materials collected for recycling are brought to the Department of Solid Waste Management facilities for processing and are handled appropriately; recyclables do not become part of the solid waste disposal stream, regardless of the vehicle used to collect them.

As a reminder, due to the Christmas holiday, a shifted collection schedule remains in effect for this week; Thursday’s collection occurring on Friday and Friday’s collection occurring on Saturday. If inclement weather again interferes with curbside service on Saturday, updated information will be provided over the weekend. The most up-to-date information on the status of curbside recycling collection can be obtained by visiting the Office of Recycling’s website at: www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/recycle or by calling 301-600-2960 to hear regularly updated voice recordings.
