A suspect identified as Cory Aaron Nowalk was charged as an adult and served with a criminal summons to appear in court for his involvement related to shots being fired in the woods to the rear of Toys-R-Us on route 40.
On 12-17-2012 at approximately 04:03 pm members of the Frederick Police Department responded to a call for shots fired to the rear of Toys-R-Us, in the wooded area. Upon there arrival they checked the area and were unable to identify who was responsible for the discharge of a firearm.
On 12-19-2012 detectives responded to a shooting incident that occurred in the 400 block of Hillcrest Drive in Frederick Maryland. Detectives were able to identify the shooter in this incident. They also determined that Mr. Nowalk took possession of the handgun involved in the shooting. He attempted to discard the handgun. All, including Mr. Nowalk, were charged in the incident on 12-19-2012. Mr. Nowalk was charged as an adult and was served with an arrest warrant for his involvement in the shooting incident.
During an interview with Mr. Nowalk on 12-19-2012 he admitted to detectives that he was responsible for the shots being fired in the wooded lot that was repoorted on 12-17-2012. Mr. Nowalk stated that the gun used in the shooting was the same gun he shot into the air on 12-17-2012. Detectives were able to re-cover the handgun. Mr. Nowalk was served with a criminal summons by Det. Petruzzello on 01-22-2013.
