Large Events on Private Property Require Permit
Frederick, MD -- The time of year has arrived when many organizations are planning large festivals and similar outdoor events. Please be reminded that on May 2, 2013, the Board of Aldermen enacted Ordinance G-13-12, under which permits are required for large events on private property at which 2,000 or more people are expected to be in attendance. If you are planning such an event in The City of Frederick and you have not already applied for a permit from the City, please contact the Building Department located at 140 West Patrick Street, Frederick as soon as possible. Permits are also required for parades, races, walk-a-thons and block parties.
Mayor Randy McClement said, “This ordinance was enacted to ensure the welfare and safety of all persons and property associated with or attending these large events. Safety is paramount, especially where large gatherings are concerned. The permit requirement provides some reassurance that the event will not have an adverse impact on people or property.”
Failure to obtain a required permit, failure to comply with permit conditions, or any other violation of Ordinance G-13-12 is a municipal infraction punishable by a fine of up to $1000.00.
Ordinance G-13-12 can be viewed in its entirety by going to The City of Frederick website at www.cityoffrederick.com, then click Government, Charter/Code,recently adopted Ordinances and scroll down to section G-13-12.
