At this time there has been three incident of electric company fraud from local business owners.
This week Officers have received three reports from local business owners in reference to a Potomac Edison fraud scheme in the area.
Local business owners have advised that a male suspect contacted the business via telephone claiming to be a representative of Potomac Edison. The suspect told the business owner that their account owed money and it needed to be paid by the end of the day or the power would be shut off. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were up to date on their accounts.
The Frederick Police Department would like to remind the business community and citizens not to give out personal or banking information over the phone. Please contact the company to verify any account information.
