[ARCHIVED] Traffic Stop by Directed Patrol Unit results in arrest for handgun and drugs

On 1/09/2013, at around 1619hrs, OFC. Michelle Donovan stopped a vehicle at Center St. and Madison St. for a traffic violation.

On 1/09/2013, at around 1619hrs, OFC. Michelle Donovan stopped a vehicle at Center St. and Madison St. for a traffic violation.
Upon stopping the vehicle, OFC. Donovan identified the driver by his license as a Carl Lee Otto 02/22/1976. While conducting the traffic stop the driver proceeded to flee from the traffic stop in the vehicle. OFC. Donovan then took chase, a few blocks later the chase was terminated. A short distance from where the vehicle was last seen, officers were able to locate a passenger who was let out of the vehicle at the corner of Mt. Olivet Blvd. and S. Market St.
OFC. Gregware and Geiser then located the vehicle and Mr. Otto in the 600 blk of S. Market St. Mr. Otto was then placed under arrest for Fleeing and Eluding. A search of the vehicle incident to arrest resulted in the recovering heroin, scale and a gun magazine containing ammunition.
Further investigation revealed that Mr. Otto had thrown numerous items of drug paraphernalia and a handgun from the vehicle. All of these items were recovered.
At the time of this press release a photo of Mr. Otto was not available. A photo will be released once it is available.
