Statement from Mayor Randy McClement
Regarding Bechtel Power Corporation Remaining in Frederick County
Frederick, MD –
As Mayor of The City of Frederick, I extend my sincere gratitude to Governor Martin O’Malley, the Frederick County Delegation, the State Legislative Policy Committee, and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development for their successful efforts that resulted in the retention of Bechtel Power Corporation in Frederick County. Through the availability of the $9.5 million loan from the State of Maryland’s Economic Development Opportunities Fund, Bechtel will remain in Frederick County as one of our largest employers.
The City of Frederick is proud that Bechtel Power Corporation will continue its operation on the Frederick campus. Although Bechtel Corporation is not physically located in the City of Frederick, I feel very strongly that we offer the best advantages for Bechtel Corporation’s employers and families. Many of the 2,000 employees at Bechtel’s campus call the City and County of Frederick home and as a result of Bechtel Power remaining in our community, the economic opportunities and incentives are tremendous. Companies such as Bechtel help drive the innovation economy.
We continue to welcome and encourage the Bechtel community to take advantage of the opportunities that make our City a great place to call home.
Randy McClement
Mayor
The City of Frederick
