Frederick, MD -- Mayor Randy McClement will be the Key Note Speaker at the Bike Maryland 17th Annual Bicycle Symposium on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. The event will be held at the Miller Senate Building in Annapolis, Maryland.
In 2010, Mayor Randy McClement created an ad hoc Bicycle Advisory Committee with the goal of helping The City of Frederick become recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. In 2011, the designation of Honorable Mention was achieved. In 2012, the League of American Bicyclists designated The City of Frederick as a Bicycle Friendly Community - Bronze level. On February 7, 2013, the Board of Aldermen passed a Resolution to create the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee formalizing the Ad Hoc Bicycle Advisory Committee.
Mayor Randy McClement said, “The City of Frederick remains committed to enabling bicyclists and pedestrians to safely cycle or walk for recreation and transportation and we are recognized throughout Frederick County as a leader in Bike Friendly initiatives. The increase of bicycling and walking opportunities helps to improve the quality of life of the residents of The City of Frederick, which can lead to higher property values, business growth and increased tourism.”
