Officers of the Frederick Police Drug Enforcement Unit arrest driver for prescription narcotics
On the evening of 02-03-2014, members of the Frederick Police Department's Drug Enforcement Unit were conducting surveillance in the area of Pearl St and S Jefferson. Officers observed a vehicle parked in front of a residence for a short period of time until an unknown person came out of the residence and got into the vehicle, which then pulled away.
Officers observed the vehicle commit a traffic violation as it was leaving the area and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Prospect Plaza on S Jefferson St. Upon contacting the driver, Epamenondas Efantis, officers observed him to be nervous, unable to answer simple questions and unable to corroborate answers from the passenger. Officers requested a K-9 unit respond to the scene for a sniff of the exterior of the vehicle.
Upon the arrival of the K-9 unit, the K-9 positively indicated for the presence of drugs in the vehicle. Efantis was placed under arrest and searched at which time officers located numerous prescription medications, schedule 2 narcotics, on his person for which Efantis was not prescribed. Efantis was also found to have his driving privilege suspended in the State of Maryland.
Efantis was arrested without incident and was taken to Central Booking for further processing. Efantis was charged with 3 counts of Possession of CDS not marijuana for the pills and driving on a suspended license. Efantis is currently awaiting an appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
