[ARCHIVED] Frederick Running Festival - May 3 & 4, 2014

The Frederick Police Department reminds citizens, visitors and businesses to prepare for the upcoming Frederick Running Festival scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th.

The Frederick Police Department reminds citizens, visitors and businesses to prepare for the upcoming Frederick Running Festival scheduled for Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th. Festival events will include a 5k race and a Kids Fun Run on the evening of Saturday, May 3rd and the Frederick Half Marathon on Sunday, May 4th.

The Frederick Running Festival will start with a Kids Fun Run on Saturday, May 3rd at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Twilight 5k race at 6:00 p.m. The 5k route begins at the Frederick Fairgrounds and follows Monroe Ave. to the new Monocacy Blvd. extension. Runners will follow Monocacy Blvd. to Gas House Pike, where they will turn around and head back to the Fairgrounds. The 5k race shall conclude at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The featured event, the Frederick Half Marathon, will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 4th and will conclude at approximately 10:30 a.m. The race will start and end at the Frederick Fairgrounds and a team relay exchange point will be located at North Frederick Elementary School. The course route has remained the same as 2013.

Festival organizers estimate that approximately 7,000 runners and their families will be participating in this event. The Frederick Police Department would like to remind citizens to be aware that the event will bring not only additional vehicular traffic, but also additional pedestrian and bicycle traffic with the runners, their supporters and first responders protecting our community. Citizens will see a significant police presence all along the route with additional traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, traffic signs and variable message boards to help keep participants safe.

Motorists should expect delays and plan additional travel time during the event. All event parking areas will be clearly marked and located close to the Fairgrounds.

The Frederick Police Department is also encouraging everyone to be vigilant and report suspicious activity. As part of the Department of Homeland Security’s nationwide public awareness campaign, citizens are reminded “If You See Something, Say Something.” Suspicious activity should be reported immediately to the Frederick Police Department at 301-600-2101 or by calling 9-1-1.
