Frederick Municipal Airport to Host Aviation Events

Frederick, MD – The Frederick Municipal Airport is pleased to announce it will be hosting two major aviation events in June, 2014. The Maryland Airport Managers Association (MAMA) in partnership with the Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) and the Frederick Airport will host the 19th Annual Maryland Regional Aviation Conference at the Hampton Inn, Frederick Hotel from Wednesday, June 4th through Saturday, June 7th. In addition, the 3rd Annual Maryland Regional Festival of Flight will be held at Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK) on Saturday, June 7th.

The Annual Maryland Aviation Conference will focus on topics such as Airport Safety and Current Airport Issues, Wildlife Hazard Management, Lockheed Martin Pilot Portal, Unmanned Aerial Systems, Capital Funding for airports, AOPA hot topics with keynote speaker Mark Baker among other topics of aviation interest. For more information and to register for the conference, visit www.marylandairportmanagers.org

The 3rd Annual Maryland Regional Festival of Flight will be held at the Frederick Municipal Airport on Saturday June 7th. The Federal Aviation Administration Safety Team (FAAST) will provide a day of safety seminars. This will provide an excellent opportunity for pilots to meet other aviation professions. For more information on the Maryland Regional Festival of Flight, visit www.mdrff.org.

“Frederick is delighted to be the host city for this important aviation conference, bringing together the aviation community to learn about trends and best practices in aviation.” stated Richard Griffin, Director of Economic Development for The City of Frederick.

On Saturday, June 7th, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and Frederick Municipal Airport will host a “Learn to Fly Day” at Frederick Municipal Airport. The free daylong event is designed to introduce the local community to general aviation. From 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, volunteer pilots will provide free flights for those new to general aviation aircraft (ages 8 and up on a first come-first serve basis). Desktop simulators, a static aircraft display and aviation activities will be available for everyone to enjoy. Additional information is available at www.aopa.org/fredericklearntoflyday or by calling AOPA at 301.695.2000.

To top off the four day event, on Saturday, June 7th, MAMA will host the 3rd Annual Awards Ceremony for the “Explore Maryland by Air Program”, a program that has drawn over 900 pilots.

The Frederick Municipal Airport is the 2nd largest airport in Maryland with 110,000 aircraft operations each year. The airport is the proud home of AOPA and other terrific tenants such as Landmark Aviation Services, Frederick Flight Center and Advance Helicopter Concepts among others. More than 350 companies routinely use Frederick Municipal Airport for corporate jet travel.
