Alderman Kelly Russell Appointed to Maryland Commission on Climate Change
Frederick, MD – City Alderman Kelly Russell was recently appointed to the Maryland Commission on Climate Change through an Executive Order issued by Governor Martin O’Malley. Alderman Russell will serve a term of 2 years effective November 19, 2014. The Executive Order expands the membership of the Committee and states that more must be done to achieve the State goal’s to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Maryland and prepare State and local governments as well as residents for the likely health, environmental and socioeconomic effects of climate change. The requirements of the Executive Order also included the development of a plan to achieve an 80 percent, science-based reduction in Maryland’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2050.
“It is an honor to be serving with leaders across Maryland who are working to identify the causes and consequences of climate change on our state, and developing strategies and measurable goals to lessen its effects.” said Alderman Russell.
Alderman Russell is serving her 2nd term as an Alderman and is currently President Pro Tem of the Board of Aldermen. Russell serves on the following Boards and Commissions:

The newly expanded Commission will hold their first meeting on Monday, December 8, 2014 at the Department of the Environment (MDE) in Baltimore.
