[ARCHIVED] Vehicle Pursuit- 12-009657

On today's date, a Frederick Police Officer working a grant aided overtime assignment aimed at traffic violations became engaged in a vehicle pursuit after a vehicle fled after it was stopped and the officer was out of his vehicle.

On today's date, OFC Alcorn with the Frederick Police Department's Patrol Division was conducting selective traffic enforcement in the area of the 1500 block of Opossumtown Pike as part of a grant funded overtime assignment aimed at traffic enforcement. At approximately 1555 hours, OFC Alcorn initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1500 block of Opossumtown Pike for a routine traffic infraction. The vehicle initially complied and yielded to the officer, pulling to the side of the road. OFC Alcorn made contact with the driver, who gave paperwork identifying him as Parris Eugene Mason B/M/10-15-66. The paperwork did not have a photo. OFC Alcorn returned to his vehicle to conduct computer checks on the information and it revealed that the Mason subject was driving with a suspended license and had an open warrant for FTA for driving suspended. OFC Alcorn returned to have the driver, who still had to be positively identified as Mason, step from the vehicle. At that point, the driver drove off at a high rate of speed. OFC Alcorn pursued the vehicle north on Opossumtown Pike and into the County. The pursuit wound into the County, and after appoximately 7 minutes the pusuit was terminated due as the Frederick Police Department did not feel the pursuit risks outweighed public safety. OFC Alcorn was subsequently able to locate a license photo of Mason and he was able to confirm this was the driver of the vehicle. Officer with several jurisdictions attempted to locate Mason at different addresses without success. A warrant for his arrest is being sought. Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Parris Eugene Mason are asked to call their local police department. Anyone who has more information can also contact OFC Alcorn at 301-600-7501 or they can report information anonymously at 301-600-tips or by E-Mail at fpdcrimetip@frederickmdpolice.org.
