Theft of purse on E. Church Street.
At approximately 0945 hrs. this date Officers were dispatched to a theft in the area of E. Second St. in Frederick. Responding officers were advised that an off duty U.S. Park Police Officer had a suspect detained at the scene. Upon arrival further investigation revealed that the suspect being detained had stolen a purse from inside the Evangelical Lutheran Church, located on E. Church St., while services were in progress. The off duty officer had located the suspect who appeared to be hiding something inside his jacket when approached by the officer. Responding units were able to determine the suspect was indeed hiding a ladies purse under his coat. The purse was found to belong to a female victim who was attending church services at the time of the theft. The stolen property was returned intact to the victim and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. He is identified as:
Christopher Lynn Reed, W/M/08-01-76 of the 3000 blk. of Hansonville Rd., Frederick, MD. Reed is charged with the following offences:
Theft over $500 but under $1000 (purse)
Theft under $1000 (contents)
Reed is being held on a $5000 bond.
