[ARCHIVED] Bike to Work Day 2015 - Challenge Accepted by City of Rockville!

The Mayors of Rockville and Frederick have thrown down a challenge again this year! It is a challenge to increase participation in Bike to Work Day for 2015 in our Cities.

Bike to Work Day 2015
Friday, May 15th

Frederick, MD – May 12, 2015: – (Update to BTWD 2015) The Mayors of Rockville and Frederick have thrown down a challenge again this year! It is a challenge to increase participation in Bike to Work Day for 2015 in our Cities.

Mayor McClement stated, “Mayor Newton has accepted my challenge for the City of Rockville! Last year, The City of Frederick prevailed…..will we again this year? We are in it to win it! I look forward to this friendly competition with your City and may the best team win!”

Mayor Newton responded by saying, "Mayor McClement - you're on!! I accept your challenge with pleasure. Last year we were neck and neck with the number of participants. Frederick does it well - we'll just have to work hard to do it better."

2015 Bike to Work Day is almost here and promises to be a morning of fun in Frederick! Bike to Work Day (BTWD) will take place on Friday, May15th, rain or shine. To find out more about Bike to Work Day, view The City of Frederick Audio Visual Department’s production of Bike to Work Day Video.

Bike to Work Day is sponsored by TransIT Services of Frederick County. TransIT Services offers commuter resources for those interested in using alternative transportation including public transit, paratransit and commuter assistance services to Frederick County residents and area commuters. TransIT offers bicycle racks on many connector buses to make biking to work easy and inexpensive. The MARC Station, also known as the TransIT Center, the location of the Bike to Work Day pit stop in Frederick, serves as the arrival and departure site for most TransIT buses.

The City of Frederick is designated as a bronze level bike friendly Community by The League of American Bicyclists.
Our fun packed schedule this year is as follows:

Friday - May 15th
6:30 AM - Ceremonial Ride (Gather at Hood College)

6:40 AM - A Blessing of the Bikes and Remembering Our Cycling Friends

6:45 AM - Depart Hood College for City Hall

7:05 AM - Depart City Hall for the MARC Station

7:20 AM - Arrive at MARC Station – Master of Ceremonies John Fieseler, Executive Director of Tourism Council Of Frederick County, Inc.

7:20 AM - until:......

• Ride with others in a commuter convoy: Commuter convoys on Bike to Work Day will be led by experienced bicycle commuters, and many routes are available. Find a convoy near you at: www.biketoworkmetrodc.org/join-a-convoy
