Frederick Police Detectives have charged a Frederick man with attempted murder Wednesday

On 12/02/2015 at approximately 4:41 PM the Frederick Police Department responded to a reported stabbing in the 1100 Block of West Patrick Street Frederick, MD.

As Frederick Police Officers arrived on scene they located two male victims suffering from life threatening stab wounds. One victim was transported to Meritus Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The other suspect was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital for lifesaving efforts. After a surgical procedure this victim was later transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. At the time of this release both victims remain hospitalized in critical condition. No additional information on the victims is being released at this time.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene to begin the investigation. Det. Kevin Forrest is the lead investigator for this case. A portion of Rockledge Plaza was closed off as the crime scene Wednesday evening. Through investigative efforts, including interviews, evidence collection, and surveillance review Detective Forrest was able to quickly identify the suspect in this case as Eric Alejandro Mendez-Cinque of Frederick, MD.

The investigation revealed both the victims and suspect were known to one another prior to the assault occurring. The two groups encountered one another in the Rockledge Plaza shopping center and a fight occurred. During this fight Mendez-Cinque had a knife and stabbed the two victims. After the stabbing occurred Mendez-Cinque fled from the scene. Frederick Police Officers were able to locate Mendez-Cinque in Hillcrest Park and took Mendez-Cinque into custody without further incident. Mendez-Cinque was later transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the shopping center to identify other suspects and or witnesses. The Frederick Police Department believes there were additional witnesses to this incident who could provide valuable information to police about this event.
