On 03/29/2016 at approximately 0426 hrs, Officers with the Frederick Police Department patrol division were dispatched to a hit and run involving 2 vehicles on Rosemont Ave. When officers arrived the victim told them that a vehicle had followed him and intentionally hit the rear bumper of his vehicle 3 different times and then struck his driver’s side door as it was fleeing from the scene. The victim was unaware of the identity of the suspect, but did provide a description of the suspect and their vehicle.
As officers were looking for the suspect they received a call for a suspicious person in the area of East 4th St and Chapel Ally. OFC Frank Rucci and OFC Eric Morton responded and discovered that the suspicious person was the same one involved in the hit and run accident. When officers made contact with the suspect who was seated in the vehicle the suspect unexpectedly placed the vehicle in reverse and accelerated. Both officers attempted to get out of the way of the vehicle, but were struck by the suspect’s car. The vehicle then fled from the scene. OFC Morton was not injured; however OFC Rucci’s leg was run over by the vehicle’s tire.
OFC Rucci was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital and released later this morning with minor injuries.
The investigation is still ongoing. More information will be provided when available.
