The Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) will sponsor a Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off event for Frederick County residents on Saturday, May 21, 2015 from 8am until noon at the Public Safety Training Facility, located at 5370 Public Safety Pl.

DROP-OFF DAY SCHEDULED FOR COLLECTION OF HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTES

FREDERICK, MD – The Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) will sponsor a Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off event for Frederick County residents on Saturday, May 21, 2015 from 8am until noon at the Public Safety Training Facility, located at 5370 Public Safety Place in Frederick. (Location formerly listed as 8349 Reichs Ford Road.)

The purpose of this event is to provide an opportunity for appropriate, safe disposal of household items that contain hazardous components. Only household waste will be accepted; no materials generated through commercial enterprise will be permitted. There is no charge for residents to dispose of hazardous items at this event.

Frederick County residents may bring household materials such as rechargeable batteries, fuels, thinners, solvents, insecticides, pesticides, fungicides, household cleaners, pool chemicals, stains, sealants, mothballs and photographic chemicals. Compact and tube fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts are accepted for safe disposal at this event. (Additional year-round collection of CFL bulbs is provided by many hardware stores, such as Lowes or Home Depot or local retailers such as MOM’s Organic Market or The Common Market.)

Medicines, radioactive materials, biomedical waste, firearms, ammunition, explosives, fire extinguishers and freon tanks will not be accepted at this event; for information on proper handling of these items please visit the DSWM website: www.frederickcountymd.gov/hazwaste. Items normally accepted for recycling or disposal at the DSWM facilities, including solidified paint, alkaline batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, tires, lead-acid batteries, regular household trash or recyclables, will not be collected at this special event.
