The Frederick Police Department’s Street Crimes Team has made an arrest of a Frederick man for the possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute…
On 03/28/2017, at 8:50pm, an officer of the Frederick Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit was patrolling the 500 block of Cascade Way, Frederick, MD. The officer observed what he knew through his training and experience to be drug related activity. The vehicle left the area of Cascade Way and a traffic stop was conducted in the area of Ellrose Court and Hillcrest Drive, after a traffic violation was observed.
The vehicle occupants were extremely nervous, were breathing heavy, and failed to make eye contact with the officers. One officer asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. The rear passenger, later identified as Amari Torell Porte, produced a cylindrical device containing suspected marijuana. When the officer opened the cylindrical device he noticed three individually wrapped baggies containing suspected marijuana. During Porte’s search incident to arrest, officers located a large amount of U.S. currency ($441), which, when tied to the individually wrapped baggies, would be indicative to the selling of illegal drugs. While under arrest, additional marijuana was located inside of Porte’s lunchbox. The lunchbox consisted of a mason jar containing 26 individually wrapped baggies of suspected marijuana. In addition, there was also a pack of unused small baggies similar to those containing the marijuana. The total weight of the suspected marijuana was 29 grams.
Due to the fact the suspected marijuana was identical in packaging and weight for ease of sale, it is believed Porte possessed the marijuana with the intent to distribute.
Porte was placed under arrest and was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for an appearance before the District Court Commissioner.
