Frederick, MD – Don’t miss the Bike to Work Day festivities! Bike to Work Day, May 18th, brings an additional status with it for The City of Frederick this year! Named a 2011 Bicycle Friendly Community Spring Honorable Mention by the League of American Bicyclists, this award recognizes the dedicated work of the City’s Ad Hoc Bicycle Committee.
On June 3rd, 2010, The City of Frederick Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to move forward with the process of becoming a designated Bicycle Friendly Community. With the overwhelming support of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen, the Ad Hoc Bicycle Committee was formed and tasked with developing an action plan by November 1, 2010.
Tim Davis, Planner for The City of Frederick, received notification of the Honorable Mention status from the League of American Bicyclists on April 27, 2011, less than 6 months after the Ad Hoc committee was initially formed.
The League of American Bicyclists will provide specific feedback in the next month to assist the Ad Hoc Bicycle Committee on what can be done to make Frederick more bicycle friendly. The ultimate goal of the Ad Hoc Committee is to have The City of Frederick receive the Bicycle Friendly Community designation.
Bike to Work Day, schedule for Friday, May 18th (rain or shine), will begin at 6:45 AM with the Ceremonial Ride from Hood College to City Hall and ending at the Downtown MARC Station.
