3 suspects were arrested after stealing in excess of $1,000.00 in merchandise from two local grocery stores.
On 05-20-12 at approximately 1850 hrs. Officers of the Frederick Police Department, Patrol Squad “D” responded to a reported theft at the Safeway, 927 W. Seventh St. in Frederick. While enroute to the call FPD Dispatchers alerted the Officers of a vehicle description and tag number. The vehicle information was provided by an eyewitness at the scene. Officers canvassed the area and the vehicle was located a short time later by Off. Michele Clark in the Seventh Street Shopping Center parking lot. The vehicle contained 3 occupants at the time it was located. Further investigation into the matter revealed the suspects had stolen items from the Safeway and then gone to the Giant Eagle located in the shopping center. OFC. Brian Wolf conducted the primary investigation and determined the suspects had stolen a total of approximately $1,600.00 in merchandise from the two stores. All items were recovered as a result of this investigation. The suspects were identified as follows:
Brittany Marie Smith, B/F/09-14-91 of the 2200 blk. of Riding Crop Way, Windsor Mill, Md.
Clara Lynn Smith, W/F/08-29-68 of the same address (Mother of Brittany)
Veney Lewin Welford B/M/02-23-66 of the same address (Father of Brittany)
All three suspects were charged with Theft less than $1,000.00, Theft Scheme over $1000.00. Clara Smith was also charged with Driving on a suspended license. The suspects were awaiting an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner at the time of this press release.
