Directed Patrol Team Makes Numerous Arrests In Downtown Area

FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Police Department’s, Directed Patrol Team, made up of a Lieutenant, Sergeant, Corporal, and five (5) Officers, have been conducting enhanced enforcement efforts in the downtown area.  Specifically, the areas of Carroll Creek, South Market Street, and West All Saints Street.   The Team has been working with the neighborhood to address concerns of drug and alcohol use, trespassing, littering, and noise violations.

During the six (6) day enforcement operation (April 16, 17, 18, 24, 25, 26), the team charged thirty (30) subjects with possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and various other quality of life crimes.  The majority of the CDS recovered is suspected synthetic cannabinoid also known on the street as “spice”.  The recovered suspected “spice” will be sent to the Maryland State Police lab for analysis to be used at trial.  The Directed Patrol Team is committed to enforcing criminal violations that are occurring within the assigned downtown area to deter future crime from occurring.

In 2012, the City of Frederick passed an ordinance that criminalized the possession or sale of spice within the city limits.  Frederick City Code 12-2, possession of synthetic cannabinoid/synthetic cannabinoid analog/synthetic cathinone, carries a penalty of 90 days in jail and/or $1000.00.  The Frederick City Code violation is issued on a criminal citation, but if other factors are present, such as the offender is a danger to themselves or others or the Officer has reason to believe the offender will not comply with the lawful order of the Officer, the offender can be transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for processing.

The Frederick Police Department would like to thank the community for working in partnership with the Directed Patrol Team to address these concerns.  We encourage the community to contact the department when they see suspicious or illegal activity.  If you need immediate assistance, please call 911 or non-emergency at 301-600-2102.  The Department also has a tip line - you can remain anonymous.  Tips can be called into 301-600-TIPS (8477), text message at 240-674-TIPS (8477), or by email

For on-going concerns please contact Sgt. Wiles or Cpl. Alger.

Sgt. Tracey Wiles       301-748-6273
