FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 28, 2019

OVER 500 POUNDS OF MEDICATIONS COLLECTED AT DRUG DISPOSAL EVENT

FREDERICK, MD – On Saturday, October 26, 2019, the Frederick Police Department along with the Frederick County Health Department, Drug Enforcement Agency, and Whitesell Pharmacy hosted a local drug disposal event as part of National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.  The event was held at the former Trinity School, 6040 New Design Road.

The community dropped off a total of 507.8 pounds of unused and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications at the drug disposal event. All of the medications that were collected will be destroyed by the Drug Enforcement Agency. The next drug disposal event is scheduled for April 2020.

For those who were unable to make the event, but have unwanted medications, the Frederick Police Department has placed a permanent “medication drop box” behind police department headquarters for the community to safely dispose of expired, unused, and unwanted medications, including controlled substances.

The drop box is located in the parking lot of Frederick Police Department Headquarters (behind the courthouse), located at 100 West Patrick Street, enter on Court Street.  The drug collection box is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is monitored by video surveillance. Unwanted medications can be dropped into the box with no questions asked.
