About a dozen Frederick Police Department personnel delivered Christmas gifts to more than 50 children in the Frederick community Sunday.
FPD's School Resource Officers used money from donations to buy gifts for 32 children, and 22 FPD employees bought gifts for 22 other children. The Frederick Optimist Club, Ruff Ryders Motorcycle Club and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #91 partnered with FPD in the initiative.
The agency knows every child deserves to have a merry Christmas, and brought the gifts to each child’s home to ensure a safe delivery. All FPD personnel wore masks to deliver the presents, including Santa Claus and the Grinch, whom the department enlisted to help with gift delivery.
“Today was a special day for FPD to be able to bring so much joy to families. It means a lot to us that parents gave us the privilege of bringing Christmas to their children,” said Sgt. Rebecca Carrado of the FPD Outreach Unit. “Everyone involved had a wonderful day. We loved hearing the children scream for Santa and the Grinch. It was emotional to see some of the tears of joy from parents. It’s one of my favorite events we do.”
