The City of Frederick knows that parks and recreation programming are essential! These spaces provide much to the community, especially for Frederick's youth. To ensure that the community's parks and programming grow along with the City, the Parks and Recreation Department has embarked on a Parks and Recreation Masterplan with the support of GreenPlay, LLC. The plan received approval from the Board of Aldermen in January 2021.
Phase One of the plan, which included an initial review of park information and hosting several stakeholder meetings and focus groups, began this past week. Phase One will conclude with a public meeting to review the initial findings on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 6PM. Additional public comment will be accepted during this meeting, which will be broadcast on Channel 99 (TV and Online).
Phase Two will include additional data gathering by GreenPlay, including in-person site visits of all of our parks and a community-wide survey.
The Parks & Recreation Master Plan will allow the new community-driven vision and mission to guide park investments for decades to come. The plan will serve as a guiding document for policy decisions, prioritize and balance demands and opportunities, and provide a framework for evaluating future land acquisitions, park improvements, and recreation programs. The plan will also incorporate energy efficiency and sustainable strategies, evaluate collaborative opportunities with other entities, and explore accessibility opportunities within the current infrastructure.
