FPD investigating active shooter incident

At approximately 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Frederick Police Department responded to the 8400 Block of Progress Drive for reports of an active shooter. Upon arriving, FPD determined there were two victims who suffered life threatening injuries and were transported to an area shock trauma center. The shooter then drove to the military base on Fort Detrick, where he was shot and killed by military personnel on the base.

There is no threat to the public.

The investigation is still ongoing. FPD will be holding a press conference at 2:30 p.m. at the Royal Farms on Monocacy Blvd.

Monocacy Boulevard will be closed for several hours from Route 26 to Gas House Pike as FPD investigates. However, drivers can get through by taking Broadband Drive.

FPD is asking residents to avoid the area of Key Parkway and Willowdale Drive.
