FPD investigating collision into house that left one person dead

On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at approximately 1:45 a.m., officers of the Frederick Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the 100 Block of South Jefferson Street, in Frederick City, for an accident with injuries.


Through the initial investigation, it was determined a blue Dodge minivan left the roadway and struck a house in the area of S Jefferson Street and W South Street.  After the van struck the house, the house caught fire, and the occupant of the vehicle became entrapped. The fire was extinguished and the driver of the minivan was extricated and transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.


The collision caused significant damage to the front of the residence, and building inspectors are currently on scene to evaluate the structure.  There were three people in the house when it was struck and all have been accounted for.  One of those persons obtained minor injuries and the other two were not injured.
