On Sept. 22, 2021 investigators from the Frederick Police Department executed a search and seizure warrant in the 1800 Block of Dulaney Court in reference to a straw purchase of a firearm. A straw purchase is an illegal firearm purchase where the buyer of the firearm is unable to pass the required background checks or desires to not have his or her name associated with the firearm, and uses a proxy buyer to make the purchase.
The Frederick Police Department also executed two additional warrants in relation to the investigation. As a result, investigators recovered three long guns, and handgun ammunition.
One subject, Andre Darnil Brown, 30, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Straw Purchase
- Straw Purchase to a Prohibited Person
- Unlawful Sale/Transaction of a Regulated Firearm
- Illegal Possession of a Regulated Firearm
- Three Counts of Rifle/Shotgun Possession for a Disqualified Person
- Illegal Possession of Ammunition
FPD’s Major Crimes Unit, Tactical Investigations Unit and Special Response Team executed the search warrant with assistance from Rockville Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and ATF under the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN). The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services provides grant funding and strategic support to MCIN member sites to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal organizations through inter-agency collaboration and data sharing to make Maryland safer.
