Frederick WORKS! One Job at a Time Initiative Reaches 1,000 Jobs
FREDERICK, MD -- Earlier this year, in an effort to boost the local economy, Frederick County Workforce Services (FCWS) and the Frederick County Workforce Development Board (WDB) launched Frederick WORKS! One Job at a Time, an initiative that encourages Frederick County businesses to be part of the unemployment solution, by creating and/or filling at least one job in 2012.
In the months that have followed, businesses have risen to the challenge. Frederick County Workforce Services has tracked over 1,000 jobs since January 1, 2012, including a large number of positions with Frederick Memorial Hospital due to the opening of FMH Crestwood. Nearly 300 employers have been counted by the initiative so far for hiring Frederick County residents and/or creating jobs within Frederick County.
Championed by the Frederick Board of County Commissioners, The City of Frederick Mayor Randy McClement, and other local municipal leaders, Frederick WORKS! One Job at a Time is modeled after similar programs in other communities throughout the United States that have been successful in generating new job opportunities and getting the unemployed back to work.
Mayor Randy McClement said, “This is very encouraging and exciting news and I want to take this opportunity to thank our local businesses for accepting the challenge and adding to our workforce. The City of Frederick is a great place to work and live and by adding just one job, you help give someone or a family the opportunity to experience what we have to offer.”

job – it would mean 3,500 new employment opportunities for our City workforce” said Richard Griffin, Executive Direct of the Department of Economic Development for The City of Frederick.
Partners of the Frederick WORKS! One Job at a Time initiative includes the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, The City of Frederick Economic Development Department, and the Frederick County Division of Business Development and Retention. By publicly recognizing employers that have hired or plan to hire in 2012, Frederick WORKS! One Job at a Time partners have brought attention to the fact that businesses are hiring in Frederick County.
Frederick County businesses that would like to join the One Job at a Time initiative and become a part of the solution can complete and submit a simple form through the Frederick County Workforce Services website at www.FrederickWORKS.com/onejob. There is no cost to participate, and the benefits of joining include positive recognition and free publicity.
