FPD provides de-escalation training to Frederick bar, restaurant staff

de-escalation training

The Frederick Police Department is committed to community partnerships and helping our business community and residents maintain positive relationships and act as good neighbors.

In conjunction with its efforts in the Nighttime Economy Taskforce, the Frederick Police Department recently partnered with our bar and restaurant establishments to provide de-escalation and tactical communication training. This training, in coordination with the Downtown Frederick Partnership, was provided to more than 40 bar and restaurant staff, and aims to provide bar and restaurant staff with the necessary communication skills to de-escalate situations they may encounter with patrons at their establishment.

The Frederick Police Department relies on tactical communication every day to ensure positive outcomes with every person we interact with. This tactical communication will serve as another tool for staff at bars and restaurants in Frederick in an effort to prevent incidents that require police intervention. However, this partnership also serves to continue building relationships with these staff members and establishments, so they can feel comfortable calling the police whenever needed.

Additional training will be held early next year.
