Frederick Police Arrest Rape Suspect

The Frederick Police Department has identified and arrested a man on several sex offense charges.  

On Jan. 20, 2023, members of the Frederick Police Department’s, Major Crimes Unit were contacted about a 13-year-old teenager being solicited and raped by a white male in his 40’s, later identified as Edwin Richard Hunt, of Joppa, Maryland. 

Detective DeWees and Detective Skelly of the Major Crimes Unit, Special Investigation Team immediately began investigating the incident and quickly learned the subject solicited the 13-year-old female on the social media platforms Reddit and Snapchat.  

The investigation revealed that Hunt drove from Joppa, Maryland to Frederick, Maryland to engage in sexual activities with the teenager.  

On Feb. 1st, 2023, members of the Frederick Police Department took Hunt into custody in Joppa, Maryland (Harford County).   Search Warrants were executed on his residence, business, and vehicles. 

Hunt was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for processing.

Hunt appeared in front of the district court commissioner where he was Held Without Bail. 

This investigation was a coordinated effort between the Frederick Police Department, the Frederick County States Attorney’s Office, Child Advocacy Center (CAC), the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Harford County Sheriff’s Office, Baltimore County Police and Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Reginal Task Force under the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN). The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services provides grant funding and strategic support to MCIN member sites to identify, disrupt, and dismantle criminal organizations through inter-agency collaboration and data sharing to make Maryland safer.
