The Frederick Police Department is excited to announce their support for the upcoming Frederick Running Festival, taking place on Saturday, May 6 and Sunday, May 7, 2023. This annual event brings over 4,000 people to the city, including runners, their families, and spectators from all over the state.
The festival will kick off on Saturday, May 6 at 5 p.m. with a kids Fun Run followed by the Twilight 5K race at 6 p.m. Both races will begin at the Frederick Fairgrounds. On Sunday, May 7, the main event, the Frederick Half Marathon and Team Relay, will start at 7 a.m. The race will begin and end at the Frederick Fairgrounds, while the Team Relay exchange point will be held at Hood College.
The Frederick Police Department will be providing road closure assistance for the Half Marathon, utilizing rolling road closures beginning at 6 a.m. to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators. The first road closure will be on E. Patrick Street at Franklin Street. Motorists should be aware of traffic and delays in the area and plan accordingly. We encourage all residents to review the race route provided here.
As always, the Frederick Police Department encourages citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. There will be a significant police presence in the area throughout the festival to ensure everyone's safety and security.
"We are proud to be a part of the Frederick Running Festival and to help ensure the safety of all participants and spectators," said Police Chief Jason Lando. "We urge everyone to be aware of road closures and delays, and to report any suspicious activity to law enforcement."
The Frederick Police Department looks forward to another successful Frederick Running Festival and wishes all participants the best of luck. For more information about the Frederick Running Festival, please visit their website at frederickrunfest.com.
