The Frederick Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in solving a cold case involving a fatal hit-and-run vehicle accident that occurred in 2019. Officers are asking the community to come forward with any information that could help locate the driver responsible for this tragedy.

On December 18, 2019, the Frederick Police Department received a call reporting an injured person in the unit block of Hillcrest Drive. Responding officers discovered an adult male, later identified as Richard Shelton, aged 58, of Frederick, Maryland. Despite the efforts of bystanders who were providing CPR, Mr. Shelton was pronounced deceased after being transported to a local area hospital.

Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a red/maroon-colored late 2000's model GM van. Following the hit-and-run, there may have been damage to the vehicle's front right quarter panel and/or the front passenger door.

FPD officers have pursued leads and information related to this case. However, we are once again reaching out to the community for their assistance. Any detail, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could be the key to solving this case and bringing closure to Mr. Shelton's family.

If you were in the Hillcrest Drive area between 8:40-9:00 p.m. on December 18, 2019, and remember something that might help our investigation, we encourage you to come forward.

Please contact Cpl. Deatrich at 240-549-4541 / TDeatrich@FrederickMDPolice.org or OFC. Coady at 240-549-4542 / acoady@frederickmdpolice.org with any information. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can also contact the Frederick Police Department's crime tip line at 301-600-TIPS (8477). The City of Frederick is a participating jurisdiction with Metro Crime Stoppers (MCS) of Maryland.  Submitting a tip through MCS is anonymous, and if the information leads to an arrest or criminal charges, the tipster receives a cash reward.
