[ARCHIVED] Frederick Police Arrest Man for Arson; Suspect Faces 17 Charges

On November 24, 2023, at approximately 9:13 p.m., officers with the Frederick Police Department responded to 2200 Block of Waller House Ct. for a reported domestic disturbance. The caller reported a disturbance, stating that his neighbors were engaged in an altercation and a male was locked out of the residence. The male, who was on the back deck, was heard yelling threats to burn everything down and harm everyone. The caller witnessed the male using a chair to break a glass window or door on the back deck.

Upon arrival, officers immediately identified damage to the rear door on the back deck of the home. Heavy smoke was observed inside the residence, and FCDFRS was called to the scene. While assessing the situation, additional officers initiated the evacuation of nearby townhouses connected to the residence on fire.

Patrol officers conducted multiple interviews with witnesses and the homeowner, who was not at the residence when the fire began. During the investigation, it was determined that the homeowner observed a male known to her, Byron Alton Bowie (DOB 12-24-1975), approach her residence via her Ring doorbell. Bowie was observed breaking into the home on the ring camera just before the fire started.

Shortly after, officers from the Frederick Police Department located Bowie nearby, wearing the exact same clothing as seen in the Ring doorbell footage. Bowie was taken into custody without incident.

The Frederick County Fire Marshall's office led the investigation while the State Fire Marshall responded to the scene with a K-9 who detected accelerant inside the residence. It was determined that the suspect used an accelerant agent to start the fire inside of the residence. Bowie was transported to the FCADC and received 17 charges in relation to this incident.
