Frederick, MD – The City of Frederick’s Department of Public Works and Department of Engineering and the Hood College Environmental Studies Department teamed up to develop a Streambank Restoration Study for the Rock Creek Corridor. The goal of this study is trifold and includes developing a list of prioritized erosion-damaged sites along the stream corridor, gathering flow and stream nutrient data, and identifying non-native aquatic species. This work will up-date and augment a study conducted over a decade ago by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The Hood College students’ work will assist the City in targeting funds for future restoration projects.
Citizens should expect to see teams of 3 to 4 students working in or around the stream for the next 4 to 8 weeks. Some of the work will continue into the Spring of 2013. An interim report is expected later this year and will be presented at a future City public meeting.
