The Frederick Police Department is pleased to announce the results of the Medication Turn-In event held today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium. During the four-hour event, members of the public turned in a record 1525 lbs of prescription and non-prescription medications! We would also like to thank our partners for their continued support in making this event the most successful yet. Our partners in today's event were The US Drug Enforcement Administration, Whitesell's Pharmacy and the Maryland Nurses' Association.
Events such as this are helpful in a variety of ways. The surrender of unused or expired medications allows us to dispose of them properly and keeps our landfills and waterways free from harmful chemicals and helps protect wildlife. It also helps prevent unintended poisoning and overdoses by young children as well as the potential for illegal abouse of some drugs by others.
The Frederick Police Department and our partners anticipate the next event to occur in the spring of 2014.
